Eligibility Requirements for WrapPlan®II

To apply, you must be a NYSUT member who is actively at work, age 70 or younger on your last birthday, and a resident of New York, New Jersey or Pennsylvania. Retirees must be 70 or younger on your last birthday, not disabled, and a resident of New York.


WrapPlan®II is also available to your spouse or domestic partner. A term rider is available for the member’s eligible dependents.

The following is a summary of WrapPlan®II underwriting criteria:

Guaranteed Issue (GI) Coverage for Members with Term Insurance - Up to $200,000 total coverage is available to members based upon existing term insurance (NYSUT voluntary group term or term offered or provided by the local benefit fund or employer.) Members must be actively at work to qualify for GI.


Conditional Guaranteed Issue Coverage (CGI) - Up to $200,000 coverage is available to NYSUT members who want to "wrap" their in-service death benefit under the NY State TRS, ERS, CERS, or TIAA. CGI requires applicants to be actively at work and not been hospitalized (inpatient or outpatient) or missed five consecutive days of work in the past six months.


Conditional Guaranteed Issue Coverage for Members without Term Insurance - Up to $100,000 coverage is available to members who do not have term insurance. CGI requires applicants to be actively at work, and not been hospitalized (inpatient or outpatient) or missed five consecutive days of work in the past six months.


Simplified Issue Coverage (SI) - Up to $300,000 coverage is available to members who want coverage amounts over $200,000, and for those members who have private term insurance. SI requires applicants to be actively at work, and not been hospitalized (inpatient or outpatient) or missed five consecutive days of work in the past six months. In addition, members must complete the medical questions on the application - no blood tests or examinations are required. Retirees are limited to $100,000 coverage.


Spouse/Domestic Partner Coverage - Up to $300,000 coverage is available on a SI basis as explained above. If the applicant is not employed outside the home, he/she must be able to perform the same activities of a person of like age and gender. The applicant must have term insurance and not be retired to qualify.


Spouses/Domestic partners who do not have term insurance qualify for up to $50,000 coverage.
