City of Philadelphia provides Basic Term Life Insurance and offers additional options to give you the ability to assemble a complete Life Insurance portfolio.

Basic Term Life and AD&D Insurance

City of Philadelphia provides Basic Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage at no cost to eligible employees and enrollment is automatic.


  • $20,000 – Eligible Flex exempt and non-represented employees and eligible members of First Judicial District and FJD Local 286. 

  • $25,000 – Eligible DC-33 Permanent CAP members and grandfathered DC-47 Permanent CAP members.


Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance

Flex employees may also purchase Supplemental Life Insurance coverage in addition to the company-paid benefit. You pay the total cost of this benefit through convenient payroll deductions.


Group Term to 120 Life Insurance

Group Term to 120 Life Insurance completes your family’s protection, providing a cost-effective benefit for final expenses such as funeral costs, credit card debt, and medical bills. As long as premiums are paid, this policy will not expire, and Life Insurance premiums will not increase until age 120.

  • Guaranteed Acceptance: No physical exams are required to apply for coverage (although health questions may be asked).

  • Portable Coverage: You can take your policy with you if you leave the company or retire.


  • Coverage for Your Needs: Purchase the precise amount of coverage that is right for your needs. 

  • Accelerated Benefits Option: You may opt to receive a portion of your death benefit while you are still alive if you suffer from a terminal illness and/or chronic condition. You may receive up to 50% of the lump sum or 25 periodic payments equal to 4% of the death benefit. There is a 90-day waiting period.
